Tracking roads impacted by San Antonio weather.

San Antonio weather this spring has been one rainy forecast.  Thunderstorms, flash flooding, and locally heavy rainfall has been forecast for many days in a row.  The grounds are saturated. Today numerous schools were closed or had delayed starts because of water on the road.  San Antonio weather can make for hazardous driving.  One resource to check before venturing is a web site called Drive Texas.  This web site shows road closures, construction, flooding, and other hazards.  If you are taking a road trip, Drive Texas web site can be a valuable tool for planning your route before you hit the highway.

El Nino and La Nina

It has been a wet year for San Antonio.  Our extreme weather pattern started with one of the strongest three “El Nino” weather patterns last year since 1950, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.  NOAA says that while El Niño is still hanging around, and is expected to  continue through spring or early summer, now  conditions are favorable for La Niña to emerge within 6 months. So the crazy weather pattern continues.  Other sources for San Antonio weather updates are:  Weather.com , and KSAT.

San Antonio Weather and Foundations

If you are a homeowner, wet weather followed by abrupt dry weather can impact your foundation in  undesirable ways, says Melinda Magee, Broker Associate, Home Team of America.  Inside a home, a you might see cracks in the drywall, windows and doors that don’t open or close properly, and tile and grout that separate, she said.  As the moisture conditions change from wet to dry foundations may settle.  A soaker hose is usually the best type of hose to place moisture next to the house.  To learn more about watering around the foundation, Lineberger Consulting Engineers has an excellent blog on it.
